Project Name: Corten Steel Sculpture Honoring Waitaha People
Location: New Zealand
Project Background
This project celebrates the Waitaha people, the first indigenous inhabitants of New Zealand. The client, who owns a vast 5,500-hectare property, discovered ancient rock art on his land and sought to preserve these cultural symbols through large-scale outdoor sculptures.
“We want to tell the story of the Waitaha people by transforming the ancient rock art on our property into sculptures.”

Creative Design Collaboration
Our design team worked closely with the client, studying the references and refining the designs over six months. The process involved multiple revisions, ensuring the final design honored the original rock art while being structurally sound.
Key Steps:
Created a prototype based on the client’s vision.
Incorporated the client’s hand-drawn modifications.
Developed a 3D model and finalized the design.

Production and Engineering
The production phase featured a unique challenge: integrating wooden elements supported by steel I-beams. Our team conducted extensive calculations and tests to strike a balance between structural stability and aesthetic appeal.
Highlights:
On-site inspection by the client’s representative.
Seamless integration of steel and wooden components.
Ensured durability for outdoor installation.

Factory Testing and Quality Assurance
Before shipping, we conducted a full installation test in the factory to ensure all components were perfectly aligned and met design standards. This step guaranteed a smooth on-site assembly in New Zealand.

Final Installation and Feedback
The sculpture was installed seamlessly on the client’s property. The client expressed great satisfaction:
“It’s exactly what I imagined. Thank you for bringing my vision to life.”
