This Bavaria Statue is about 18 meters high and made of bronze. It stands on the Theresienwiese in Munich and is a masterpiece of German neoclassical sculpture. The statue is a woman wearing an olive wreath. She holds a laurel wreath symbolizing victory in her right hand and a majestic lion in her left hand, symbolizing strength and loyalty. The sculpture was designed by designer Ludwig Michael Schwanthaler and was ordered to be built by Bavarian King Ludwig I in 1850 to commemorate Bavaria’s cultural achievements and national unification.
